Asante
Inspired by StoryCorps’ A Reason to Smile and Kakuzo Okakura’s reminder that “the art of life is a constant readjustment to our surroundings,” this project began with a simple truth: joy often hides in plain sight. For me, that joy is tea. More than a beverage, tea is ritual, memory, and connection. Rooted in the philosophy of Ubuntu, the belief in our shared humanity, Asantea was created as both a celebration of Rooibos heritage and a vessel for gratitude.
“Asante,” meaning “thank you” in Swahili, frames the brand as an offering of appreciation. The design carries this forward with a logo inspired by my own kettle, imagery of African landscapes and Rooibos blossoms, and embroidered detailing that mirrors the interwoven threads of community.
Inside the box, each tea bag sits alongside a short story, vignettes of how tea has united South Africans through shared moments, resilience, and understanding. These narratives transform the packaging into more than a container; it becomes a storytelling medium, reinforcing the idea that every cup is an invitation to connect.
Asantea is designed for tea lovers and gift-givers alike, embodying the belief that joy, like tea, is best when shared..
